The Westmoreland Museum of America Art celebrates the opening of the exhibition Peddling Personalities: Portrait and Still Life Pairings with a reception on Saturday, October 25 from 3 to 5 p.m. The exhibition pairs still life works of art created by regional artists with portraits from The Westmoreland’s permanent collection. Contemporary regional artists were invited to select a portrait painting from the Museum’s collection and submit an existing still life work or create a new work to pair with the portrait. The artists were asked to consider how the objects in their still life might reflect the person in the portrait and were invited to write an explanation about the pairing. The 14 artists participating in the exhibition are William DeBernardi, Bud Gibbons, Diane White, Kristen Kovak, David Stanger, Joyce Wewrie Perry, Robert Bowden, Mike McSorley, Karen Kaighin, Barry Shields, Patrick Lee, Kurt Pfaff, Al Gotlieb and Duncan MacDiarmid. The exhibition will remain on view at Westmoreland @rt 30, the Museum’s temporary location, through the end of February 2015.
Thanks to Beaver Valley Arts group for inviting Joyce to speak and demonstrate her knife technique to its members at Merrick Art Gallery in Brighton. She looks forward to judging the exhibit in March of next year.
Collaborating with promoters for Matthew Mayfield, Joyce is donating a portrait of the talented and popular singer/songwriter to raise funds for his latest project. Matthew will be appearing at Club Café in Pittsburgh on Sunday, November 9 at 8pm. Find out more about him at www.matthewmayfield.com
Damian Lynch, a videographer hired by the Westmoreland Museum of American Art, recently paid a visit to Joyce’s studio to create a few short videos of Joyce and her painting technique. Joyce and her painting Mining America – already part of The Westmoreland Museum of American Art’s permanent collection, will be the very first featured in winter/spring 2014-15 as a computer application available to visitors who will have access to I-pads supplied by the Museum to learn more about the painting and the artist during their visit. This project will include a new interactive art table, which will be set up near Mining America. Click here to watch a clip of the video.
